Trademark a Product Name in the UK
Written by Just Trademark It. Not legal advice. We are not the UK IPO and not registered trade mark attorneys.
The name on the product, the shop, or the service is the one customers remember. That is usually the name to trademark. The company name at Companies House is a separate record. Registering a company does not trademark the name, and trademarking a product name does not rename the company.
Which name goes on the application
Apply for the brand you actually use on the goods or services. If the company is North Street Ltd and the product is sold as MAPLE POST, the trademark application is for MAPLE POST, for the goods you sell under it. The owner can still be the company. Who signs as owner is covered in who should own a UK trademark.
Describe those goods in your own words. We will not widen the list to things you did not say you sell. Classes are explained in UK trademark classes. If there is also a logo, it is usually a separate application: how to trademark a logo.
Search the name, or start the application
You will see the service fee and the official UK IPO fee before you pay. Nothing is filed until a person has reviewed it.
