How to Trademark a Logo in the UK
Written by Just Trademark It. Not legal advice. We are not the UK IPO and not registered trade mark attorneys.
A logo trademark protects the design you file, as it looks. It is a different application from a word mark. The word mark protects the name in any ordinary styling. The logo application protects that particular picture.
Which application to file first
Most businesses start with the name. A name and a logo are usually two applications, with two official UK IPO fees. Filing only the logo does not, by itself, give you a word mark in the name. If the logo later changes, the registration may no longer match what you use.
What to send us
Start the name application and upload the logo if you have one. Our team will talk to you about whether a separate logo application is worth filing. We do not file a second application unless that has been agreed. Nothing is filed until a person has reviewed it.
Run the UK trademark search on the name as well. A clear logo can still clash with an earlier similar mark.
Search the name, or start the application
You will see the service fee and the official UK IPO fee before you pay. Nothing is filed until a person has reviewed it.
