UK Trademark Search Before You Apply
Written by Just Trademark It. Not legal advice. We are not the UK IPO and not registered trade mark attorneys.
A UK trademark search, before you pay to apply, is how you look for earlier marks that might clash with yours. Just Trademark It runs that screening as Trademark Check. It looks for identical marks, marks that look or sound similar, and common spelling changes, in the areas that matter to the business you described.
What the search will not say
We will not tell you a name is available. A clear result means no obvious identical mark turned up in that preliminary search. A flagged result means we found marks that may warrant closer review. The score is a summary of those screening factors. It is not a probability that the UK IPO will register the name.
This is not a full clearance search by a trade mark attorney, and it is not legal advice. The UK IPO does its own examination after filing, and other people can oppose a published application.
When to run it
Run it when you have the name and a plain description of what you sell. You can search a name before you start the application. If you want the longer version of the filing path, read how to trademark a business name.
Search the name, or start the application
You will see the service fee and the official UK IPO fee before you pay. Nothing is filed until a person has reviewed it.
